Are You Running on Empty?
Ah, the heat of the summer. Last week the temperature hit 106 degrees in Folsom, CA! Have you ever wondered why some can’t wait to be outside this time of year and others close themselves up in the air-conditioned house?
Summer is the season of the heart and small intestine and the element is FIRE. If you tend to run hot, you may not like the extra heat around you. On the physical level you may feel “wired & tired” or feel like you are “running on fumes”. Maybe you are the type of person that goes and goes and goes and when you stop, you crash? Heart palpitations may be present or your sleep may be affected. On the emotional level, constantly doing may be your go to attitude. The try-to’s present themselves. What are try-to’s?
Trying-to keep up with the Jones’.
Trying-to please your spouse.
Trying-to please your boss.
Trying-to please yourself.
Another way of looking at the trying-to’s is pretending. Pretending to be someone you are not. If you live your life in constant "efforting" and "pretending" you may be compromising your health in more ways than you realize.
How can you ease the attitude of trying-to and cool your body down? First, avoid hot spicy foods. Adding heat to heat just creates more heat. Think watermelon, grapes, pineapple; not jalapenos and ginger.
And ditch the red wine.
I know, most people really don't like when I make that suggestion!
Take Action:
Hold your little finger.
Gently wrap your right hand around your left little finger and breathe for 9 deep breaths. Then reverse hands and repeat.
What do you observe in your body? Your little finger has a relationship with the Heart and Small Intestine.
If you resonate with the “wire & tired” feeling or any of the above symptoms, do this powerfully simple hold every day and see how you feel. If sleeping is an issue for you, fall asleep holding your little finger.
Dream on hot stuff!
